A year in review

Well, 2010 was definitely my year. I moved home after living in the Phillippines for almost a year. (dang, i did love the Philippines though). My life changed COMPLETELY but I have never been happier. I made so many wonderful friends, reunited with my best friend since childhood, got two pups, worked at Walmart for about 2 months (it was actually fun!), got in my first (and last) fight (don't ask haha), and became mama wolf of my family (which has been challenging as well as rewarding). My papa passed away this year, but I am so happy to have made the decision to come home. I got to spend a lot of days with him.

These are photos that were in my photobooth that recap my year, the first one I was actually in the Korean airport on my journey home. The last photo was on New Years Eve (I had the stomach flu sooo bad.)

This past weekend, my dad went to Vegas to visit his girl, and I was left to look after the kiddos. I finally got a new car! (i blew up the motor in my old beauty, my little vw rabbit 6 long months ago) and we've been having a blast. Our local thrift store had a 50% sale these past 3 days, and we went to 2 of the day and got so many treasures! Mostly items for around the house (and man, i don't mean to brag, but i have sure made this house cute since i moved home), but I picked up some gorgeous vintage dresses for Kira, and she adores how different they look to all the modern day clothes. We spent a lot of time at our new favorite park, they have 2 ponds and the kids are allowed to feed the ducks!
I need to get better at posting, it's on my goals list for this week! School is ending, i'm just feeling like I have no weather appropriate clothes for this amazing 40 degrees we've been feeling in Yucaipa.

I bought this dress for $10 over the weekend at my favorite thrift store. I wore it to class today, and I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm weird, but oh well. Sorry about the ugly background in my photos..The sun is setting way too early, and I had Chrys take these photos as we were exiting a thrift store this afternoon. I didn't want to miss the chance in this dress!

How are you enjoying the time change? I left the time on our stove an hour ahead (instead of moving it back) and I've been getting all the kids to bed at 8:30 (because they think it's 9:30!) am I mean? or just clever? I'm loving this extra hour of peace though!

Halloween Party (better late than never)

My friend Chrys and I threw the most magical Halloween party! 12 of our closest friends came by and we danced the night away. I was an owl (i made my skirt!), and my lovely friend Magaly did my hair and makeup! (shes the gangsta' in the photos). I have been awful at posting, schools been busy, and so have the children. Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! And I'll end this post with a photo of Kiersten's ever growing baby bump.

San Francisco Day Two!

Today Kiersten and I were up bright and early! We ate bread bowls full of soup for breakfast then we headed off to the cable cars to go adventuring. After 20 minutes of sitting and waiting on the cable car, they told us it was down for another 30 minutes so we attempted to walk our way to China Town. We made it up 4 or 5 major hills, winded..we just waited by a cable car sign and got on the first one we saw that wasn't full! We hung around Union Square, walked around then headed back to Fisherman's Wharf to eat lunch at In-n-Out..After we ate, we took 2 busses and went off to Haight and Ashbury! (we were extremely proud of finding out way along the city). We bought organic fruits and drinks, and headed home...Even though it's still pretty early, we are wiped out from all the activities we've been doing. Tomorrow is another full day here, and we are going to attempt to go to Alcatraz!

San Francisco!

For my brithday, my wonderful grandma sent me and my cousin, Kiersten to San Francisco! Kiersten is 5 months pregnant and cute as a button and today was her first time flying! We flew in at about 2pm today, and we've been running around all day having a blast exploring the city. We ate cupcakes at Ghirardelli square (i got pumpkin, she got banana caramel), rode the cable cars, ate at a cute diner, saw a walkathon, went to a wax museum (kind of creepy), and went to a vintage arcade.

My Birthday - Part II

We woke up bright and early on the 14th and I decided I wanted to spend my birthday at the beach. On the way there, I saw the off ramp to Disneyland...and said to Anton "hey, disneyland or the beach, choose now!" and we got off the freeway and headed over to the happiest place on earth! Both Anton and I have season passes, but I didn't bring mine...Dinseyland let me in anyway and we had a blast!

We got home really late and crashed into bed..The next morning I woke up to my beautiful cousin and she made me the most wonderful cupcakes.

Around my house, we all have animal nicknames..Roman is Papa Bear, Kira is Baby Lion, and I'm Mama Wolf!

My Birthday - Part I

At midnight on October 14, Anton woke me up with a big ol' box for my birthday! I was so excited and I had nooo idea what it could be. Please excuse these photos, I am tired and in my Pj's, i swear i don't have a crazy eye hahah =]

Aaah a new record player! I had an old one, and it sounded awful. It was slowly dying to the point that I didn't even bother to listen to it anymore. For weeks before my birthday I would search thrift stores for a new record player, and every one I would spot Anton would say "No, I don't like it" or "I doubt it works" so I would pass them up. I see why now!

Once Anton took removed my old record player off the desk and hooked in my new one he found "our" record. Come and Get Your Love by Redbone! We listened to it three or four time and I thanked him a hundred times and I nearly cried. It was such a thoughtful gift, my favorite thing to do is sew listen to my records...

I have had these red boots for a few weeks now, and everytime I would try to put an outfit together with them I would feel silly. I found this shirt digging around in this estate sale, and I knew instantly my boots would be able to see the light of day! I adore the print and the collar of this shirt, I think the turtle are so cute!

Anton and I spent two hours on Monday at a truly magical estate sale. This building that had been closed since I was little (I've lived in this town my whole life) has an "Estate Sale" sign out front and I was so ecstatic to go in! The old couple had owned the building and made it a thrift store in the 50's, but they both passed away 17 years ago, closing the store. They finally opened the doors to it this past weekend. It seemed like everything in there had been frozen in time..Anton and I joked around that we felt like we were American Pickers (I love that show!) Everything was in piles and covered in dust..All the clothes were mostly in pristine conditions, I must of got 25 things (all for $1! each) I came home dusty, grumpy with arms sore from digging, but I had a blast!

Birthday Boy

Friday, October 8th was Anton's Birthday! Thursday night, my dad gave him his gift since he wouldn't of seen him on frinday due to working. Look at what happens next.

Anton's always wanted a bb gun, and once my dad heard that, he knew it would be the perfect gift to get him! Anton's mother wouldn't let him ever get one as a child, and now we all know why, haha. A few shots off of our front porch, and he shot out the window of my dad's van! We all had a good laugh and my dad wasn't mad. We just need to get it repaired over the weekend.

The next morning I surprised Anton with covering our room and his car in balloons. I got him a few gifts that he really loved and I baked him a cheesecake (his favorite recipe here!). After we took the girls to school, we came home and slept until noon..Once we were awake and ready, we went and ate breakfast at Denny's. I guess when it's your birthday, you get a free grand slam! Pretty radical. We sat and talked in Starbucks for a while and went to a few thrift stores, then he was off to work!

A Day in Photos

I started off my morning by hanging out with Roman. We watched some cartoons, and played until the girls got out of school. After they came home and we tidied up the house, we all went to the park! I'm pretty proud of the bow I knitted! I spent the rest of my sunlight at Starbucks writing a paper for school. Once Anton got home, he took me out for some Chipotle! And now we're at home, cuddling our pup. Pretty swell day.

Both Friday and Saturday I woke up early to get some deals. Friday, a local thrift store was having it's first of a month sale, making all clothes only $1.00. Anton and I went there around 8am, and waited in line for an hour (it was a big deal!) and we scored about 20 pieces of clothes. I got a pretty vintage coat, and Anton got a thick wool vintage navy coat among other great things. Saturday I woke up to my best pal calling me saying there was a huge rummage sale at the retirement complex on the other side of town. Most everything there was a quarter to a dollar, and the old folks running the sale were so cute.

The weather here in Yucaipa has been so wacky. The mornings will look full of clouds and wind, but within a few hours it will be 98 degrees and I'm left feeling deceived. I can't wait to start wearing sweaters and cardigans. Hopefully not too much longer, right? The past two days have been spent doing extreme thrifting, I have found so many amazing things, I'll post those tomorrow though.

On September 22, my papa passed away. It's been real hard to grasp the fact that he's actually gone, but I know he wouldn't want me to be sad, he was ready to go. Ever since my grandma passed away, he was never the same. I know his heart ached, and it puts a smile on my face to imagine them finally back together. My papa was one the best men I have ever met. He was honest, spoke his mind, worked his bones to the core, and he was so loving. Whenever I listen to Hank Williams, I think of him and I driving in his truck, and the sound of his deep voice singing along "Hey good lookin', What cha got cookin."

Phew, it's been a long week. I caught some sort of cold from my aunt's house, and I have been sick all week. I spent my time mostly sleeping in bed, drinking tea and watching movies. ( i saw Brave Heart for the first time!) I have the best boyfriend and friends. They helped take care of me and our house while i was sick! Today, I had to get out of bed and dressed to meet up with classmates to work on a project that's due soon.

Well, I have been playing around with my camera and tripod, and hooray! Regular posting will commence. My new blog is slowly but surely coming along, my wonderful uncle is making my layout. I'm pretty excited! As of late, my life consists of taking care of my three siblings, going to college, thrifting, and loving my boyfriend (who you lovely readers haven't met yet) and pup!

Hiii! I have been so awful at posting, because, well, I simply just don't have a camera! I am saving up my money...And hopefully soon I will be able to get back to my regular posting. Woah! So i have been gone for a LONG time! My life has changed 100% since my last post....I have decided to stay permanently in California. I feel like I have finally adjusted to life at home, and I am real pumped to get this blog rolling again! I've missed you guys! I am now a single lady, so my photos may not be quite as amazing as they were in the past..But I can promise the outfits will be just as good, if not better! I had forgotten how magical thrift stores here in the states were, and I've obtained quite a collection for both my wardrobe and my new room that I can't wait to share. I came across this beauty last week at the local bazaar. There were tons of booths, featuring young local designers creations. Amongst all the sequins and animal print I stumbled upon Zarina Agduma's booth. It was full of vintage inspired dresses and tank tops. The second I walked over there the designer herself picked out this dress for me and said "this seems very you." She couldn't have been more right!

If any of you gals are in the metro manila area, Zarina will be releasing her new line at the Rockwell Bazaar February 27-28!

I'm so sad I only got one photo in it...The day these pictures were taken was full of bad luck. Daren forgot an important cord for one of his lights and the light we ended up using died after a few frames.

Woah! Sorry for being away for so long..I have been feeling under the weather lately, but I'm finally getting better.

Today, we drove around looking for a new location for photos...We ended up going along the coast, where we came across a Hooters. I've never eaten at one before today, but even so, it reminded me a lot of home. (Dad! I got you a shirt!) I ordered fried pickles, they were delicious!

I'm so excited to finally have a cute pair of glasses! I have been wearing glasses since the 5th grade, and I made the change to contacts in the 8th grade...I broke my glasses that year, and since then, I have only worn contacts! So it has been almost 5 years my eyes have gone without a break.

Well, in other news, I'm been knitting like a mad lady. Hopefully my project will be done by tomorrow so I can post photos!

Let me tell you, I've been on the hunt for a cute pair of high waisted shorts for a long time! I know these particular ones may not be very figure flattering, but I love 'em anyways. They are such a great color and they only cost around $7.

I am back in Makati now from the quick trip to Boracay with Daren's family. I'm kinda of bummed, Daren's sister, and fellow blogger, Dana and her husband go back to California tomorrow! I had a lot of fun with them these past two weeks, and I'm sad to see them go.

A Walk on the Beach

The weather cleared up yesterday for a little while, so we all went out to the beach to take some photos and play a little volleyball... I had this dress custom made for me using the same pattern as the dress Daren made me for Christmas. I love it, but now I have strange tan lines from wearing it all day in the sun, well, they are more like sun burn lines hahaha!

We have been in Boracay for the past three days with a bunch of Daren's family who has recently come to visit from California. We have been going to the beach and eating tons..It has been kind of a bummer though, the weather has been overcast and windy. Hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow..Daren is dying to take some photos at the beach.

The skirt I am wearing I actually made myself! I used this tutorial. I love how it came out, and I want to make one in every color now.

Daren and I have been on the lookout for good photo locations around the city. We asked our driver if he knew of any pretty locations and he took us to a great park that wasn't too far from where we live. It was such a refreshing sight to see green grass and pretty flowers instead of buildings and malls!

After washing all of ukay finds, I realized this shirt was actually H&M! I was so excited, it looks new, and I got such a good deal...Three blouses for around 50 cents! I was actually wearing black jeans for the majority of the day...but I ran out of sticky paper on my lint roller and I was covered in dog fur! It is impossible to stay fur-free in a house with two Pomeranians! Sometimes I want to shave them bald...haha!

This dress was one of my many finds during my last Ukay trip! I actually almost passed up visiting this specific store, Daren is the one who made me go in just in case! While we were taking these photos, a little boy followed us, and was peeking over Daren's shoulder the whole time..He was so cute but his dirty clothes broke my heart! Daren asked him if he wanted to get his photo taken also. It was hard trying to get him to smile, he didn't speak any English...But luckily we have been studying our Tagalog lately. At the end of the shoot, we gave him 100 pesos (about $2 US, which is valued a lot here) and he ran off happily.

I received this dress as a Christmas gift from Daren's mom. It reminds me of something from the 90's! It is really different from everything I own, and I really enjoyed wearing it for that reason. Yesterday Daren and I decided on a whim to go to Quapo, and we got there in 30 minutes, were as usually it can take up to 2 hours! Daren bought some camera supplies, and I went crazy at the Ukay-Ukays (pinoy thrift stores). I ended up walking away with four dresses, three blouses, two skirts and one necklace. I'll post photos soon :)

Ringing in 2010!

We didn't do anything special for New Years Eve..We live on the 43rd floor, so we had quite a show! People in the city have been lighting off fireworks for days, but that was nothing compared to the fireworks that were lit off last night.

Here are some photos from last New Year! It's hard to believe it has already been one year since Daren and I visited New York. We tried to stand in Times Square to watch the ball drop, but it was just too dang cold. At 10 pm we ended up riding the subway back to our hotel in Brooklyn, ordered some and Chinese food and watched that ball drop on TV haha.

This dress was late Christmas gift from Daren..He actually designed it, went and bought the fabric, and then had our seamstress make it for me! Our seamstress forgot about us until this past weekend, but when she finally came, she brought this beauty with her! It was certainly worth the wait..It has all of my favorite things, a full circle skirt, and nice cotton bodice, and of course the big polk-a-dots! Who could resist twirling around in it? haha. Lately, we have been having a hard time finding new locations for photos..The rules around our building are strict, and say we must have a permit, and obtaining one has been so hard! So, we just took photos in the mailbox room of our building.

I bought this whole outfit last weekend at the Local Bazaar...I instantly fell in love with this dress, and once I tried it on, I knew it was meant to be worn for Christmas. Yesterday was Christmas Eve, I wore this to help prepare the turkey dinner..All I really did was stir the mashed potatoes, but hey, it's something, haha. After we were all stuffed, Daren and I went across the street to take some photos with the huge Christmas tree at the mall. This tree is seriously like 30 feet tall!

Today was Christmas here..We all actually opened gifts 3 days ago (haha we were impatient!) so we did unchristmas-y things... Unlike the the States, a lot of businesses are still open during Christmas. We went to the mall and ate lunch, then Daren and I went to the internet cafe to play Counterstrike...I'm not very good, but it is still pretty fun..I also went and bought the 500 days of Summer soundtrack, and I cannot stop listening to it! How was everyone else's christmas?

I went with Daren's mom to the salon yesterday to get my bangs trimmed, and I ended up also getting a hair treatment which made my hair darker somehow, haha. They blow dryed my hair straight, and I'm not used to seeing myself like this now. Back in California, before we moved, my hair was straight all day every day...I hated my curly hair. The humidity here is something else, and straightening is an impossible task for me, but after a few months I learned to embrace my curls!

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and I can't wait to whip out my Christmas dress! Daren's family will be making a delicious turkey dinner (something we missed out on for thanksgiving). Sadly, pumpkin pie, my favorite holiday food is not available here in the Philippines! I am going to have my dad send me some of those cans from the states so I can make some later to make up for it!

The Feather Necklace

I know I'm a little late on the wagon, but I have finally given in to the Twilight frenzy...Before last week I had zero interest in the books, or the movies, and I couldn't understand the hype..I reluctantly watched the first movie, and to my surprise, I liked it! The following day Daren and I along with his parents went to see New Moon. And for the past 4 or so days, Daren's mom and I have been completely wrapped up in the books from morning until the night! The books are much more interesting than the movies..But now I'm a little sad, tonight I completed the last book in the series! Now what will I do with myself? haha

The Striped Dress

Thanksgiving & Ukay Finds

So yesterday's trip to Divisoria ended up being a success..It didn't start that way though! We woke up at 7 A.M. so we could take public transportation there because there is hardly any parking..We took the first bus to the train station, and the train ended up being broken..We waited around for a taxi for 2 hours before deciding to just take a bus back home..We didn't end up getting back here until 11 a.m! We then drove to Quapo because I guess that is where the Ukay-Ukays are..I ended up scoring 4 cute dresses..And Daren looked inside 10 or more camera stores. We then drove to Divisoria where we got swatches of all sorts of fabric. Daren and I have decided to start a manufacturing company here in the Philippines..With NIWL we got all our garments custom made, and there are a lot of other companies who are looking to do the same.

This dress is one of the great finds I discovered yesterday. It only cost 75 pesos which is equal to $1.50! There was actually a black out so I could only see in the corner of the store with a light from a candle, all I saw was polka-dots and I knew it was for me! I shoved it in my purse after purchasing it to continue on, and I was pleasantly surprised once I got home and looked at it.

While growing up this was always my favorite time of the year! I loved when my whole small family would get together. I would eat too many deviled eggs before the rest of the food was ready. We would all joke during dinner, and once the dishes were done we would all play Yahtzee. Best of all, before I knew it, it would be Christmas, and we would all get together again! These are memories I will always hold in my heart. I am sad I wasn't able to be there with everyone this year, but I am very thankful for my life, and all the opportunities in it. And heck, there is always next year! I called my dad during their dinner tonight, and I asked my littlest sister Kira what she was thankful for, and she replied with "My sister!" I almost cried, haha.

I've Got the Blues..

Well, not really... I was talking about my outfit! I think 80% of the clothes I own are blue..I feel like I am always wearing it, but heck, what can I say. I like the color.

My weekend was fun. Daren's Uncle Delvin and his fiance Joy were in the Philippines. We ate, talked, laughed, and they helped us think up new companies we can start since we have closed down NIWL. I don't know what the future holds, but Daren and I have about 3 company ideas that we are going over! Sunday night we all went to the Makati Golf Club to go to the driving range. It was my first time seriously golfing, and much to my surprise, I loved it.

Alright..well now back to the outfit..I love this dress! My favorite part the ruffles around the neckline..

A Makeover

Sorry for the lack of updates! My boyfriend, Daren, who is also the one to takes all my photos had to go back to Boracay to take photos for his parents. All the Miss Earth finalists (There was 80 of them!) went to the island and there was a huge party.

It was the first time I stayed alone here in Makati! While everyone was gone, I dyed my hair and got some bangs cut. I have been planning on getting short bangs for a while..and I finally took the plunge. I completely love them. I haven't had my bangs this short since I was probably in the 4th grade, so it is a nice change. I also spent my time crafting, making hair things, watching movies, and coloring in some color books I bought in California.

Daren came back today, and the second he got home I was pestering him to take outfit photos for my blog!

Productive Day

Yesterday I managed to package 20 of the order for NIWL! As much as I complain about packaging, it is actually pretty fun. I usually listen to my music and sing along so the time goes by pretty fast haha. There were a few breaks from packaging yesterday where Daren and I went to the mall to get more mailers and hardware things for him because he was trying to make his own beauty dish for photography. The mall across the street from us is so pretty right now! Everything is completely decorated for Christmas, it's crazy that it is already that time of year again. I bought two boxes of Christmas lights (for only 70 pesos! That is like $1.40), even though we live on the 43rd floor! Daren ended up surprising me and decorating our room with the lights. It looks festive in here now! haha.

Goodbye Boracay

In about one hour Daren and I will be leaving to the airport to go back to Makati, so I figured I would do one last blog post here! Here are some random photos Daren has taken during our trip.

The time spent here was really fun and relaxing, but once we go back to Makati, it will be time to work. Since being here we have sold probably 100 shirts from Never In Wonderland..It will probably take 4 days to package all of those! haha.

Wow, it feels like it has been a while since I posted last! I have been doing lots of fun things. This past Sunday Daren and I went with his brother, sister-in-law and his niece to ride the zorb! It is like a huge hampster ball you sit in and they roll you down a hill. It was fun, but scary at the same time. We have also been spending a lot of time at the beach, I am getting a tan!

On An Island In The Sun

Right now Daren and I are in Boracay, a beautiful island in the Philippines at his parent's home. Boracay is known for it's white sandy beaches and crystal clear ocean. I have been here probably 5 or more times, but each time I come I am amazed by it's beauty. Growing up in Southern California, I never knew beaches like this actually existed outside of calendars and postcards. The beaches back home are okay, but the water is so dirty you can't even see in it!

Yesterday was not only Cheesy's first time ever being able to explore outside without a leash on, but it was also her first time swimming! Both her and Macaroni enjoyed themselves and actually came into the ocean willingly. There are no waves in the ocean here so it is kind of like a big pool! We all had a lot of fun. We are probably going to be here for 2 weeks or so, and I'm sure I'll be posting tons of photos, so stay tuned =]

Happy Halloween!

Halloween has already come and gone here in the Philippines. I didn't dress up in a costume or anything. All day I actually only saw 2 children dressed up in costumes! It is strange because a large amount of stores around here decorated for Halloween, but hardly anyone was dressed up.

I sewed up this orange skirt last night so I could look festive today. Daren and I were supposed to fly out to Boracay (a beautiful island where his parents live) today, but a typhoon blew through and the weather was awful. We went to walk the dogs this morning and the wind was so strong it had unbuttoned the buttons on my jacket. By the time we came back inside we were soaked! The weather is back to normal now so we are flying out at 6 in the morning tomorrow. We spent most of the day at the mall across the street. We went and saw This Is It and snacked on delicious chocolate caramel cake and mochi!

I'm Alive!

I am now safely in the Philippines! The flight was really good for being 17 hours long! We got to sit on the second story of the plane for the first time, and there was A LOT more leg room and storage. We also requested children meals, because the adult meals are usually gross. It was neat because we get served our food first and it was actually good! Once we landed we came home and changed our clothes and left again to go get Macaroni and Cheesy. They were so excited to see us, and we were excited to see them! Cheesy was only a small puppy going through the 'uglies' when we left, she was almost bald haha. And now, she is big and has a beautiful coat of fur. I will hopefully be able to post photos of both pups later today.
Yesterday began very early for me. I woke up and it was 4 am and still dark outside. Daren and I went and took the dogs outside and afterward I lounged around on the computer catching up on all the blogs I usually read. After eating delicious pepper stir fry we went on a mission to find a place to take photos. Makati, where I live, is kind of like L.A. It is a big city with little greenery..So we ended up taking photos by the pool in our building.

Ha, I recently wore this skirt, but I hadn't unpacked yet and just grabbed whatever was on the top of my box!

Here in Southern California, the weather has been so hot! Yesterday, Daren and I ventured out to find a new location walking distance of my grandparent's house. We came across this place!

This dress is the first one I have actually made from one of my designs. I made the pattern and everything. Our seamstress in the Philippines came over the next day to help me sew it, I had never made anything with lining and I learned a lot that day. I love this dress, the bottom is so full and fun. It makes me want to twirl around all day, and I actually caught myself twirling and prancing around several times haha.

Today my dad took us thrifting. And for the first time I actually purchased something everywhere we had gone! I am usually SO picky, but I found lots of goodies. I plan on making a post tomorrow of all the vintage goodness I have picked up during my stay in California, so stay tuned.

Daren's Birthday Celebration!

Here is the cake I made for Daren on his birthday.

To celebrate Daren's Birthday, we went to Casino Morongo to go gamble for the first time. We went and played the slot machines .We were doing pretty bad until the end, and Daren won $10 so we decided we would call it quits while we were ahead. I don't think gambling is really for us, haha. It was a fun experience, but I'm not sure if I'll do it again.

After gambling, we drove down to Redlands to go take photos in a cool graffiti spot that lies within the middle of some orange groves. Once my dad got off work, we drove down to Lucielle's to go eat some delicious dinner, and we finished up the night by wandering around Bass Pro Shop to just go look at all the fish and stuffed animals.

Busy Bee

These past few days I have been keeping myself busy! Yesterday Daren and I finally bought our tickets to return home in the Philippines, and they are for this coming Monday. It is hard to believe we have been here almost 2 months already. I'm sad to be leaving because I will miss my family so much, but I am excited to return home and sleep in my own bed, continue school, and see my pup's!

Today I woke up to Roman being here! My mom needed me to babysit while she volunteered at my sister's school. Once she picked him up, my uncle took me to Super Walmart to buy some fabric. My little sister Amber asked me to make her Halloween costume..She is going to be a 50's poodle skirt girl, but instead of the poodle, she wants a black cat. I have made circle skirts before...But for some reason this one is messing with me! I am having the hardest time making a casing to put the elastic in because of the waist beings so round. After Walmart, we went to 2 thrift stores..At the first one I bought two sewing patterns from the 60's, and they are actually my size! At the last thrift store, we got a flat tire, but we got it fixed rather quickly! When we got home, Daren and I took photos.

I spent the remainder of my evening baking Daren's birthday cake. I made him a camera, and I even felt ambitious and made my own fondant using this recipe I found online. I will post photos later today! I think once we wake up we might go to the Casino or go to the movies. We'll see. =]

Saturday night my dad took me, Daren and all my siblings to a fair in Lake Perris. My little brother Roman (Who is only 2) is completely obsessed with monster trucks, and that is exactly the reason we went to the fair! They were going to have monster truck show. I had never been, and I was interested to see what it was like. We arrived a little bit late, and got crummy seats. Roman was completely intense while watching the show, it was cute! I got plenty of strange looks because of my outfit. I didn't really fit in with the monster truck crowd, haha.

Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!

Earlier in the week I came across this tutorial of a Max hat and I knew I HAD to make it! Since I was a child, I have loved Where the Wild Things Are and I have been super excited for the movie to come out. Just the music alone on the previews was amazing, I couldn't imagine how good the movie was going to be.

Last night at around 8 p.m. I began making the hat, I wanted to make sure it would be ready by Friday so I could wear it to the watch the movie. All week long I had checked the local theater's schedule, and it said there wasn't going to be any midnight showings of Where the Wild Things Are but at around 10:30p.m. Daren checked again, and of course, they barely posted that there would be a midnight showing!! I sewed as quickly as I could and at 11:20 I was done. We hurried and changed, and drove down to the theater.

The theater was packed, but we found good seats. Everyone was complimenting me on my hat, haha. As the theater got dark, and the music began to play, a man in the audience yelled "LET THE WILD RUMPUS BEGIN!!" and everyone cheered! I was happy to be around other people who were just as excited as me! The movie was really good, it had parts that made you laugh, and parts that could make you cry. The character's were adorable, the costumes for the monsters were really impressive.

Birthday Bash

Well, as I write this, it is 1 am on October 15. My birthday celebrations are over for another year. It is kind of sad, because today was so much fun. But I am exhausted! Now begins Daren's birthday week. (Isn't it weird? Our birthday's are exactly one week apart.) At midnight yesterday, Daren presented me with a home baked cake. In all of the four birthday's I have celebrated with him, this is the first time he has baked me a cake!

After waking up at around noon, I just sat around until 3:30 and my aunts and cousins and siblings came over for cake. My aunt baked me delicious cupcakes. I played duck duck goose with all the young ones while the adults talked..It was fun, but it made me realize how old I am now! ha.

After everyone left, my dad took me out to Chili's for dinner then we headed over to Knott's ~~Berry~~Scary Farm for some fun! It wasn't very packed, and within the first five minutes I had been scared by at least 10 monsters. We went through all the mazes in what seemed like record timing. Now, I'm off to bed!

My weekend started out really good! Friday my dad stayed home from work to take Daren and I to Hollywood for my birthday. It is a tradition my dad and I have been doing since I was 11 or 12. We went to Melrose to go shop, but it only made me realize how over priced it is. For a cute vintage dress, they want $30! I figured I could find a similar dress at a second hand store around here for $2-$8. And I only ended up getting a cute pair of sunglasses. We stayed around Hollywood and went to L.A. Ink to see the new mural..and we went to visit my dad's old friend from high school. We got home around 10 pm, and man was I carsick. I spend Saturday just laying in bed, sick. Today I felt quite a bit better, and I spent most of the day packaging shirts for Never In Wonderland (My clothing company). Around sunset, Daren asked if I wanted to take outfit photos since I have been so behind, I agreed even though my outfit was pretty lazy today.

This past week, I made a cupcake totebag from a pillow case I picked up at Target for only $2.50! I have been making my 8 year old sister, Amber, things lately, so I thought it was time to make something for Kira. She loved it and took it everywhere with us this last weekend. I plan on making a fun hat for Where the Wild Things Are this week, but we'll see how that goes.

Today, my grandma took me shopping for my birthday. I got a lot a cool things, and I can't wait to wear it all, ha. The photo isn't of clothes I actually wore today...Daren got new umbrellas and equipment in the mail while we were out, so he really wanted to go shoot...I was wearing a similar red and white polka dot dress to the one I wore last time we took photos, so Daren suggest I change outfits.

A Sailor at the Canyon

Today, my Aunt Kristin asked Daren and I if we wanted to go on a thrift store adventure with her and my Uncle Twon today. I was excited because I had been wearing my new sailor dress already, and it was a perfect outfit to go thrifting in. We began at a place called Hobo's Vintage. I haven't been there in about a year or so, and I forgot how adorable it is! I tried on many dresses, but all we too small. My aunt walked away with a black frock (as she likes to call it!), so it it wasn't a total loss. After that, we went to the Goodwill, where I scored and found 2 dresses that I fell in love with, I knew my bad luck was gone! haha. We also went to Michaels, Starbucks and Target before returning home..On the drive home, Daren saw a perfect spot for us to take pictures.

We returned to the canyon near sunset...I didn't realize how chilly it had got, and apparently my discomfort showed in most of the photos, but there was still some cute ones.

Today, Daren and I woke up early to go to the movies while we still had my parent's car. I made the mistake of thinking Chipotle opened at 10 am, but once we got there the doors said they didn't open until 11! Oops, haha. We went and bought tickets to Whip It, and by the time we returned Chipotle was open. Whip It was really fun, I enjoyed it a lot.

After the movie, we came home for a little while, and Daren surprised me by asking, "Do you want to go to the thrift store?!" I was so excited, I usually have to beg him to come with me. He hates going because I take so long, ha. Once we got there, Daren found a whole bunch of vintage camera stuff, and he ended up buying a lens that fit his d-90. I bought an adorable red polka-dot dress. I need to wash it so I can wear it soon. By the time we walked out of the thrift store Daren was saying "Man! I love this place!" So hopefully now I will be able to convince him to go more often.

Next, we went into the wilderness of Yucaipa to hunt for a perfect location to take some pictures. After a little hiking we came across an abandon car and decided it was a perfect place to shoot.

Today was one of the first days here since we arrived in California that it was chilly..And I only packed 1 cardigan!

My favorite thing about this week was how much time I have been able to spend with my family. While in the Philippines, I would talk to everyone once a week or so over skype, so it is nice to be able to see them every day! I have spent a few hours each day talking to my papa and my dad and looking through old photos and talking about old memories. It has been fun doing all the little things that my dad and I used to do every weekend when I lived here, like going to Target and Barnes and Nobel, and eating tons of mexican food. I haven't spent too much time with my siblings yet, but they are going to spending the weekend here which will be fun!

The pictures on this post were taken by Daren when we first arrived in California around the beginning of September. I like the expression on my little brother's face!

I made both of these tote bags recently for my little sister's birthday. The one on the left is my favorite, i debated whether or not to keep it for myself! I bought that fabric in the Philippines and it was the last on that bolt! The inside is lined with blue and white polk a dots, and it can even be reversed if she feels like it! I also hand sewed little flowers on the handles. The hello kitty purse on the right I made just for her to carry around he DS and coin purse on the weekends. It is lined with a pink silky stuff. Inside each of the bags I added various hello kitty hair things (you can see some in her hair). She loved everything!

Yucaipa & Outfit Post

Yesterday, Daren and I arrived in Yucaipa to spend the remainder of our visit here in California with my family. When we first got to my papa's house, we hung out with him in his room and we showed him all sorts of different photos on my computer. It is cute, my papa is really amazed by technology. After we talked to him for a while, Daren and I went to take pictures outside, but it was too bright...so we came inside and took the photo to the right. I really like how it came out! Daren is getting really good at photography! Once the sun began to set, we went and took more pictures at the church's parking that is across the street. The rest of the day was spent eating yummy things like Funfetti cake mix cookies and 7 bone roast.

My name is Kassie, i am 17 (Almost 18!!!). I love pretty dresses, curly hair, cartoons, old punk rock, & indie music. I started this blog to record my life and the fun fashions within it! Ever since I was in the 7th grade, I have had a huge love for 40's and 50's fashion. I love going to thrift stores and hunting for the perfect article of clothing. It is fun to wear a vintage dress, and imagine how fabulous the original owner may have been. A few months ago I challenged myself to try and dress cute everyday regardless of whether I am going out, or just staying home, so expect plenty outfit posts :)
